#INSPIRED Mono Magic

Ah Vicky B, she can’t put a sartorial foot wrong these days. I’m not going to lie, I was a massive sceptic when she was transforming herself into a fashion maven, but you’ve got to give this woman credit, she is always so perfectly put together, and this look is pure mono magic. As much as it pains me to admit it, I think her style is one I’d most like to emulate! Alas, I’m lacking in sophistication, poise and pouts.

I love that Victoria Beckham wore this jumper and maxi skirt combo to collect her Brand of the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards. It’s a look I myself regularly rock (a tad less classily though, obvs), and it goes against the grain of the traditional dress and heels formula. To be fair, she isn’t packing a lot of meat and it is pretty chilly these days, so the jumper may just have been a practical option. Nonetheless, I love it, and now feel more justified in staying cosy throughout the rest of the Christmas period with the excuse of, ‘it’s fashion darling’.

Mrs B was donning her own designs, but if you don’t have a couple of grand knocking about at the bottom of your day tote, and you want to put your own spin on things, there are loads of options out there to create your own maxi-length masterpiece.

This sloppy, cuddly oversized delight of a jumper by Isabel Marant is number one on my wish list. It’s got her signature laid back vibe that makes it a perfect match for relaxing in loose fit boyfriend jeans or dressing down a fitted mini. Or, of course, pairing with a pleated maxi skirt. The metallic black yarn will give it that luxe edge for evening glamour. For a less pricey option, COS has so many beautiful jumpers, such as this super soft cashmere number.

If maxi isn’t your style, Topshop have this awesome knee length skirt with a quirky pleated panel, adding a more editorial twist to the classic pencil cut. The more fitted cut will work perfectly with your oversized jumper and the little flash of leg (and the naughty front split) keeps things fun and playful.

Net-A-Porter have a couple of great two-tone maxi skirts, my favourite being this Fendi design in my favourite navy and black colour combo. Or, feast your eyes on this stunner by Marni. I’m obsessed with tulle skirts (dating back to my third Christmas when I was gifted with the most beautiful frothy yellow and gold fairy skirt), and I would sell my whole back catalogue of Vogues for this beauty. I do digress from my original inspirational image, but this is fashion, it’s supposed to be fun, and it’s supposed to be what you love. Make of it what you will, take inspiration from anywhere, then make it your own.
