#INSPO x Nook & Cranny Event

Yesterday we hosted an event in collaboration with Nook & Cranny – an independent gift shop based on Bold Street (Liverpool). We decided that while social events are great, we needed something different and hopefully more interesting, so the evening began with Mari Hajem’s beautiful performance. Jurga Skeiryte, Editor-in-Chief of #INSPO, shared her story of developing the magazine and how it is produced to give an insight to those who are interested in publishing business; Liz Lacey, Director of Liverpool Start & Grow, gave some tips for young businesses and entrepreneurs; and Bruce Smith, international fashion photographer, shared the story of his beginnings and inspired everyone! We were extremely happy to see so many people at the event and even needed to bring extra chairs!

All of us involved want to thank Nook & Cranny for a beautiful and festive venue, as well as Warehouse Liverpool ONE, Andrew Collinge, Chaophraya and The Body Shop for providing us with little gifts for everyone.

Doesn’t Kylie Minogue look just fabulous at the Stella McCartney Christmas light switch on in this evening denim look? Boyfriend jeans and court shoes will always be a winning match in my eyes, and she dresses the jeans up perfectly with the lingerie-inspired cami and that gorgeous sequinned blazer. Oh God, comfy jeans and sequins, my dream combo!

There are so many beautiful camisoles available, and as Miss Minogue proves, they work just as well with a pair of scruffy boyfriend jeans as they do with smarter eveningwear (think cigarette pants or a leather pencil skirt), so don’t fret about spending a bit more on one, it’ll ensure you get a top quality product that you can wear over and over. The secret is to look out for interesting and beautiful detailing. I love this satin wrap design by 3.1 Phillip Lim. The unembellished fabric is sleek and modern, while the layered wrap around adds a nice bit of swish (yes, that’s the technical term, honest). If you do prefer a more textured finish, then take a look at this lace and washed silk number by CLU. I love the delicate sheer lace eyelash trim at the hem, and the more demure cut of the neckline. On the high street, Zara has done this gorgeous velvet version at a much more purse-friendly price point.

Now, I think it goes without saying that this sequin jacket is something of a hero piece! I love the slouchy oversized cut, and she’s kept it really chilled out by rolling up her sleeves. The first thing that came to mind was this fabulous H&M kimono top. Okay, so it’s not sequinned, but the tinsel fibres are so sparkly and really something a bit special. I snapped mine up the moment I saw it, I don’t think these babies will stick around long. But if you’re a die-hard sequin devotee, then the magpie Mecca does have this little beauty to offer you as well: full on high octane glitz in a shorter, more fitted shape.

Isn’t finding the perfect pair of jeans every woman’s bug bear?? Jeans shopping is probably my least favourite of all the types of shopping, and I’ll be honest with you, I’m always just one pair away of finding that perfect fitting, super flattering pair. Just one pair away… One of my favourite brands is MIH Jeans. They do fantastic cuts in a selection of washes. Alas, my budget just doesn’t stretch that far. If your does, however, then try out their Tomboy Jean. Cut with a flattering slim leg, it’s not a super relaxed design, but definitely appropriate for evening soirees. And as Kylie demonstrates, you don’t even need a particularly dark wash to look suitably done up, so this mid-blue colour (or New Original) is perfect. Of course, Levi’s are the original denim masters, and they have an excellent choice in boyfriend jeans. The best pair I ever owned were actually my BOYFRIEND’S jeans, a pair of shrink to fit 501s that had been naturally faded with some gentle wear and tear, and they look AMAZING! But if you don’t have a minion waiting at the sidelines to commit to shrinking, softening and fading your jeans to perfection, then head straight to the womenswear department for these classic 501 Jeans For Women, in Vintage Indigo. You could cheat, and get a worn in style like those pictured by choosing the Washed Up finish, but wear any jeans long enough and that distressing will come naturally and authentically (can you tell I live with a jeans purist?).

It’s getting close to Christmas and everyone will be joining their families and friends for holidays. We are not throwing a typical Christmas party, but instead we have teamed up with Nook & Cranny and are organising a slightly different event this time. We wanted to talk about the magazine publishing in a more informative way, as well as business start ups in general.

All are welcome, but the event would probably benefit students or people wanting to start a creative business.

Venue: Nook & Cranny, 28 Bold st, Liverpool

Date: 11/12/2014

Time: 7pm

RSVP to Simone@inspomagazine.co.uk and we are looking forward to seeing you!

Top 5 money saving tips for the Beauty Addict

In need for some money saving tips?

If you’re running out of mascara, or your mascara is going dry, stand it in a cup of warm water to loosen up the product and make it usable again.

Running out if shaving cream is NO excuse to go Eu Natural! Conditioner and moisturiser are great substitutes, and it leaves a nice silky finish too.

When your lipstick has been used all the way to the bottom, use a clean cotton bud to scoop out the very last bit, you’ll be amazed how much more there is to use.

Sheer out foundation with a little moisturiser, making your product go a lot further.

If your nail varnish is going gloopy, carefully add a couple of drops of nail varnish remover to thin out the consistency.

#INSPIRED Party Princess

American singer/song writer, Aubrey O’Day, looks like a glamorous little gothic fairy, or a total party princess. You just can’t go wrong in a tulle midi skirt, and this black number is perfect for the Christmas party season. Topshop’s offering has a lovely mix of the demure midi-length, with the sexy sheer layers exposing a bit of leg for a fun, youthful feel. If you’re more of a print girl, then head over to ASOS for this gorgeous floral design.

The rich tone is perfect for partying all through the winter, and the mixed up florals will look great with a simple plain tee in the summer. This is the definition of an all round investment piece (and it’s a snip at just £65!).

The Northerner in me just loves a good sequin. I’m a magpie for all things shiny, and I’m currently obsessing over this Alice + Olivia sequinned top . Yes, we’ve established I’m not a fan of cropped tops, but paired with a high waisted skirt I might just be able to get away with baring the tiniest slivers of skin. The bracelet sleeves and slash neckline give enough coverage to compensate for the cropped length, and the fitted shape will work perfectly with the fuller tulle skirt. If you’re saving your pennies for Christmas presents and can’t justify spending so much on yourself, ASOS, as always, is here to save the day. If you like to keep your multi-textured looks streamlined, then stick to the same colour palette throughout and go for this beautiful black matt sequinned top.

As Aubrey demonstrates, the pointed court is the most perfect shoe to go with such a statement skirt. But simple doesn’t mean boring – let your footwear shine! Go bold with these neon and black Jimmy Choos , or sparkle in my faves, these gorgeous rose gold textured leather Isabel Marant hotties with cute bow detail.

X Factor Hairstyles 2014

How to achieve X Factor Hairstyles 2014
The X Factor Stylist, Jamie Stevens, says: ’Lots of men are still reliant on oldfashioned gels and heavy waxes, but I prefer working with mousse and cream products for a modern, unstructured finish and long-lasting hold.’

After washing, treat the scalp with TRESemme Renewal Hair & Scalp Tonic (RRP £5.50*), a vital step to keep hair and scalp healthy now the weather is getting cold. Use the product’s nozzle to section the hair so you can apply the tonic directly to the scalp, then massage in with your fingertips.

For long-lasting height and hold, apply TRESemme 24 Hour Body Amplifying Mousse (RRP £5.50*) to hair whilst it’s still damp. Then blow dry, using a brush to pull the front of the hair upwards. Work TRESemme 24 Hour Body Sky High Plumping Powder (RRP £5.50*) into the roots for extra volume.

To finish, apply a couple of pumps of TRESemme Texture Style Velvet Crème (RRP £5.50*) through the roots and mid-lengths for separation and definition.

Oooh! Stylist Natalia Ferviu looks rather chic! I’m loving the Frozen-inspired wintry colour palette and the contrasting proportions of her cropped top and wide-leg Bimba Y Lola trousers. Ice Queen!

I’m always on the look-out for leg-lengthening wide leg pants, and a graphic pinstripe like these will give even Giselle’s pins a run for their money. These ones come in at just under £200, and are also available in collegiate red with black stripes. If, like me, the pinstripe vibe is a bit too formal for you and you want something a bit more relaxed, Zara have a fantastic alternative – pyjama-style trousers (PJs you can LEGITIMATELY wear out in public! They even have a stretchy waistband!! My life is now complete!) The bold sports luxe stripes keep them well within the realms of style, but man I can’t wait to slip into these babies and throw on a sweatshirt and still be able to claim to be cool.

This is the second time I’ve chosen a street styler rocking a cropped top, which is odd, considering I put my midriff-bearing years behind me a looong time ago. Nevertheless, she has a lovely little waist to show off, so why the hell not? I love the thicker fabric with the high neckline and cropped sleeves. It’s not too flashy and retains all that cool that’s trying to ooze out of her. ASOS’s Petite range has this lovely embellished design in a loose fitting boxy cut and that gorgeous pale blue shade. Alternatively, the ASOS WHITE range features this beautiful navy crop with more voluminous shaped long sleeves, and a high neckline, giving a more sophisticated, streamlined finish. Conveniently enough, it would go perfectly with my soon-to-be new pyjama pants! I’ll layer it over a grey ribbed vest in order to protect my modesty.

As always, the secret to giving a quirky spin on a look is in the accessories. Natalia’s white sunglasses give a stark graphic pop to the look, and highlight the white on her printed bag and in the pinstripes. I found this pair of Linda Farrow sunglasses, in my favourite cat-eye shape, on theoutnet.com with a massive 65% off the retail price. Her red lips and matching nails clash beautifully with the whole outfit injecting a bold splash of colour. Fabulous darling!
