While Katy Perry was entertaining the crowd in loud, theatrical outfits and riding giant model lions on stage at the Super Bowl, the audience went for a more casual sartorial approach, and double denim was the order of the day.
Sports Illustrated model, Chrissy Teigen, looks rather fabulous in those teensy ripped cut-offs (c’mon, with legs like that, you would too!), paired with her oversized denim shirt. By mixing those proportions the look is quite respectable, and I’m loving the little black booties. These Callie Shorts by Paige in a light wash are a great premium option, with lovely detailing, such as the striped pocket lining exposed through the distressed front. If spending £100-plus on a scrap of fabric isn’t so much to your taste, as always, it’s ASOS to the rescue! I love these little denim shorts, and not just because I’m a stinge-bag, I actually prefer this darker wash, particularly when pairing with another denim item. And while we’re browsing through the ASOS superstore, this is the perfect boyfriend shirt to wear with your itsy bitsy hot pants. Oversized, soft, and a medium-to-light wash, it would also look great with some dark skinnies, and a leather pencil skirt. For a mere £25 this could be your most diverse wardrobe addition.
Model and actress (who got people in a frenzy for doing a burger advert at the Super Bowl), Charlotte McKinney also got in on the double denim action with this two tone little number. It’s a bit more… body friendly, shall we say? Again, loving the oversized shirt, this time paired up with white skinnies and dressed up with those little nude strappy sandals. Tres chic, non?
So we know ASOS have a great sloppy shirt on offer, and to be honest, I don’t think it’s necessary to spend a fortune on a denim shirt as the high street has such a brilliant selection. However, if you’re going white with skinny jeans, you might want to spend a bit more to get the most flattering cut and fit. We all know it, white is not the most forgiving colour. Selfridges denim studio has a price range to fit everyone, stocking denim from the likes of Warehouse through to Roland Mouret (okay, so the Roland Mouret’s are leather, but they’re still in the department!), so it’s a bit of a one-stop shop, and the ideal pace to find your perfect pair. The Maria Skinny High Rise jeans by J Brand look fabulous, and perfectly match Charlotte’s little number. MIH Jeans Paris design are also a lovely option if you prefer your cut cropped at the ankle. And if the skinny cut just isn’t going to work for you, their Phoebe Slim Boyfriend jean has a little bit more give, and will still work with the oversized shirt (definitely the option I’d go for – no one wants to see me squeezed into tight, white pants on any day of the week!).
