Some of you may not know this, but I’m a bit of a superhero geek. I grew up loving the Saturday morning Spider-Man, Thor and Captain America cartoons (and all the rest – Captain Planet, anyone??), I always had a soft spot for The Incredible Hulk, and one of my first TV crushes was (oh goodness, am I actually going put this out there…??), Burt Ward, AKA the1960s Batman sidekick, Robin. Ahem.

Well, my tastes have changed slightly (I’m much more of a Thor girl these days), but I am loving the expanding and spiralling Marvel Universe that is playing out in front of us on the big screen, and on Netflix (Dare Devil was binge watched over three days). Last week I went to see the midnight screening of Avengers: Age of Ultron. No don’t click away, this isn’t a film review (this IS a fashion post, after all), but boy it was exciting! And it has inspired this post, looking at what the film’s starlets wore on the red carpet at the UK and LA premiers (I got there in the end!)…

What a fabulous frock, truly fit for a superhero! And the perfect design for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, in flowing black jersey with a touch of caped glamour. Rocking head-to-toe Saint Laurent, Olsen is a gothic little sex siren with the mini cut and gorgeous studded platforms, which tie in with that amazing chain, sequin and crystal-embellished yoke. With detailing like that, there’s no need for any other accessories, so it’s good to see her keeping things simple with just a box clutch, a low, pulled back do with a dramatic side parting, and just a hint of eyeliner. You’ll all be pleased to know, that you can buy this dress for yourself, for a measly £2,390 (this might be why Elizabeth skipped the jewels – her budget was blown on the dress and shoes!). Lavish Alice have a far more affordable version on, just throw on some statement jewels to jazz up the neckline, and you’ll be red carpet-ready for a fraction of the price.

Doesn’t Scarlett Johansson look phenomenal?! The hair, the lips, that flurry of colour on that Balmain jumpsuit… I’ve always veered from totally getting ‘it’ (everyone’s love and lust for her), and just not getting it. Now I get it! Girl crush in action as we speak. Her multicoloured get up is just a joy to behold, teasing us with ideas of summer, and a complete contrast to her Black Widow character. I’m not usually a fan of racer straps, but these are perfectly cut to avoid any squidgy overspill (what, just me?), and the black cinched in waistband enhances her teeny waist. This bold green patterned jumpsuit by Michael Michael Kors is a beautiful and affordable way to indulge in this look. This is a fabulous beachy design, perfect for long summer days in the Med (oh if only), but it’s easily dressed up with a waist belt and a slim fitting longline blazer. The lower neckline means you can up the ante with some chunky jewelled drop earrings or a statement necklace.
